Rural Health Brochure - UNC Health Foundation

Print Design / Data Visualization

Project

The Medical Education team at UNC Health Foundation needed a way to start conversations with donors about the rural health initiatives within UNC School of Medicine. The piece needed to be portable so they could be easily taken to meetings and visually appealing, clear and concise to give donors with little-to-no prior knowledge a brief overview of the programs they can support.

Process

I collaborated closely with a writer, the AVP of Philanthropy for Medical Education and the Director of the Office of Rural Initiatives at UNC School of Medicine. An infographic of North Carolina - showing the broad reach of rural programming in NC - was the brochure’s centerpiece, using data from ORI. I considered the experience of a donor taking in the information, leading them from X to Y.

Solution

The solution was a small, brightly colored-brochure with statistics highlighted throughout. The gatefold of the brochure provides easily digestible statistics for readers to take in first before seeing the map graphic.

On the inside of the brochure we also included quotes from a student in the Kenan Scholars program (one of the biggest programs within the Office of Rural Initiatives) and a donor, both helping to provide a face and a name to the possible impact donors can make.
